Our Story
Rufia Redwan Trust was born from one man’s lifelong devotion to his community — and his family’s promise to carry it forward.
The man we remember
Al-Hajji Redwanul Hoque was born on 4 March 1930 in Sriramshi, in the Jagannathpur area of Sunamganj, Bangladesh. He was educated at his local madrasa and at Pagla High School, and from a young age gave himself to the service of others.
Throughout his life he worked for the relief of poverty, for education, and for the building of mosques and community. He was active in the movements of his time and in the life of his region, and he was known above all for his generosity and his commitment to justice.
A promise kept
When he passed away on 22 March 2010, his first Janazah was held at Brick Lane Jamme Masjid in London. His second Janazah followed on 26 March 2010, on the bazaar football field of his home village, and he was laid to rest in the Digirpar graveyard, alongside his siblings and forefathers.
His family resolved that his work would not end with him. Rufia Redwan Trust was established in his name to continue the causes he held dear — beginning in the place he came from, and reaching outward to wherever there is need.
Today the Trust is run by his family and funded privately by us. Every effort is given freely, in his memory, as a continuing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah).
